Dear members of model railway clubs, why not hold an official event called ‘KATO OFFICIAL MINI DIORAMA CIRCUS’ using KATO's Mini Diorama Base? We will also introduce workshops for enjoying Mini Dioramas.
Have you heard of KATO’s ‘MINI DIORAMA CIRCUS’? It has been featured at events in the UK since 2023, and some of you may even have seen it in person. KATO MINI DIORAMA CIRCUS first began in Japan in 2021.
As you may know, in the world of model railways, building a permanent layout is one way to create a landscape in which you can run your favourite trains. It is a wonderful hobby, but doing so requires time, money, and space, and may even involve seeking permission from your family. These hurdles can sometimes discourage people from creating dioramas.
But what if you could create your own diorama in a space small enough to fit on your desk? Imagine a compact yet sturdy base, ideal for beginners to build their own miniature worlds. No matter how small it may be, it features proper N gauge track, allowing you to enjoy both scenery and depth while running small locomotives and rolling stock. If you connect eight curved bases, they form a circular layout.
The Mini Diorama Base was created to encourage beginners to build their own dioramas using UNITRACK and its unique UNIJOINER system.
KATO MINI DIORAMA CIRCUS (MDC) is an event centred around the MINI DIORAMA BASE produced by KATO. It began in Japan, where more than 300 miniature diorama works from across the country come together for the event. Because each MINI DIORAMA is very small in scale, even beginners, including children and women, can easily get started in diorama creation.
The name KATO MINI DIORAMA CIRCUS comes from the way the individual pieces are linked together like the rings of a circus. It also reflects the idea of creating dioramas freely, without being bound by rules or conventions.
Here in the UK, there are many model railway clubs in various locations, all of which are very active. This is something quite unusual, and greatly admired, from the perspective of Japanese modellers. In comparison, there are fewer private model railway clubs in Japan.
For the continued growth of your clubs and model railway culture, KATO sincerely hopes that you will help promote MDC, which has the potential to attract the interest and attention of younger generations and a wider audience, including women.
